Time for a change…

I work with a man who almost died a few years ago. His health went down gradually…didnt even really notice it happening.
He wasn’t bad guy, but most people saw him that way…and that was okay with him. Some days he was fine, other days it was best to avoid him. He had a few close friends that he was always okay with, though. For most everyone else, it was hard to get close to him, so they didn’t even bother anymore.
One day, out of the blue, he was rushed to the ER with chest pains. The final prognosis the doctor gave wasn’t good at all. He was dying.
Not much chance of life, much less for a quality life, even if he survived. Needless to say, he didn’t like what the doctor told him and even told the doctor he was a quack and didn’t know what he was talking about.
But he survived. He’s a changed man. He changed his eating habits. Not much junk anymore…good nutritious food most all the time. Before, he’d never have thought of exercise, but now it’s his daily routine.
The most amazing thing is, he’s a really good guy. No more of the grumpiness and moodiness that made up his character before his near death experience. Now he realizes what’s really important and tries to live life to the fullest.
It’s the choice he made when the doctor told him the truth about his health. He could have continued as he had and died, but instead, chose to make the right changes and live.
I suspect this applies to all of us. Individuals…organizations…whatever.
Just a thought.
